Created by parents of three, the Taste & See series introduces the youngest children to bite-size passages of scripture.
Each book in the Taste & See series contains a short passage, along with fun and vibrant illustrations. Each page is designed with memorable images that illustrate verses in a quickly recognizable way for children.
These illustrations are also carefully crafted to encourage an understanding of the words in scripture. Younger children enjoy pointing to the pages as they learn new words increasing their vocabulary, and older children ask questions that spark deeper conversations about the words and their meanings as you read the books. They’ll notice these as you walk through everyday life too.
Taste & See books are baby and toddler proof. Printed on a special synthetic paper, and bound with thread binding, these books are durable enough to withstand the test of time even in the hands of the youngest and most enthusiastic readers. Your child won’t rip or tear the pages. When baby inevitably begins to chew on it, you can rest easy knowing that the books are completely washable.
It is our hope that these books can be used as a tool to introduce children to the person of Jesus Christ and His Word, having an eternal impact by fostering a strong foundation for their own faith.
Meet the creators
Hi! We’re Colby and Katie, creators of the Taste & See series, and co-founders of Fishermen Press. Our journey into the world of creating children’s books began while reading to our own children.
Story time with an eager 10 month old wasn’t always relaxing. His little hands would grab at the books. Those books had too many close calls with his gummy mouth too. We were concerned that he’d damage the pages, even though we knew he just wanted to participate. Board books weren’t much better since chunks of cardboard would end up in his mouth if we left him unattended with one for even just a minute.
When our almost 3 year old could “read” us the entirety of his favorite book about 20 Big Trucks, and our 10 month old started to say spider (“bye-ber, bye-ber, mama”) and bring us his favorite book, the Itsy Bitsy Spider, our parent wheels started turning; our children were memorizing what we read to them.
We wanted our children to know scripture, and they’d proven that they can memorize the words in illustrated picture books. We wanted our youngest to be able to participate in story time too.
One evening Katie could hardly contain her excitement. She had an idea. What if we developed a series of books that contained illustrated Bible verses? And what if those books were printed on virtually indestructible paper?
The idea for Taste & See books was born. It was not long before we set to work creating the first prototypes, illustrating verses, and testing out different paper options. It’s been a journey, but we’re excited to see the vision become a reality.
We’re passionate about sharing Christ with the next generation, and hope these books will be a resource for you as you share Jesus with your children.
